This is not a sponsored review. I own both binoculars and have now used them both for at least 6 months.
According to ZEISS, Terra® ED binoculars are robust, reliable and easy to use. Their state-of-the-art and sleek design makes them not only light but comfortably compact.
Well I agree with this, the binocular is lightweight, and easy to use with colour options in green-black, grey-black and full black. It's easy on the eyes. The Terra ED binoculars are waterproof and nitrogen-filled, making them rough and ready.
Let's talk about ZEISS Terra® ED's features
ED Glass with Hydrophobic Multi-Coating: This specialized glass (Extra-low Dispersion glass) significantly reduces color fringing and provides exceptional clarity and sharp images. The hydrophobic multi-coating repels water, dust, and dirt, ensuring a clear, unhindered view even in challenging weather conditions like rain or fog. This means you get a consistently clear and precise image, regardless of the environment.
ZEISS Hydrophobic Anti-Reflective Coating: This coating complements the hydrophobic multi-coating by reducing glare and increasing light transmission. It results in brilliant, high-contrast images, especially in low-light situations, allowing you to see fine details more clearly.
Waterproof and Nitrogen-Filled: Being waterproof means the binoculars are sealed against water entry, protecting the internal components from moisture damage. Nitrogen-filling prevents internal fogging caused by rapid temperature changes, ensuring clear vision in various climates and making them reliable for rough outdoor conditions.
Compact, Light, and Robust Construction: The binoculars are designed to be easy to carry due to their small size and light weight. Their glass fiber-reinforced body makes them exceptionally durable and nearly indestructible, allowing them to withstand bumps and drops, and fit easily into any bag for travel.
Wide Operating Temperature Range: With an operating range from -15°C to +60°C (+5°F to +140°F), these binoculars are built to perform reliably in extreme cold or hot environments, making them suitable for diverse outdoor adventures.
High Optical Precision: This refers to the superior quality of the lenses and prisms, which work together to deliver sharp images with excellent detail and color fidelity. This ensures a high-quality viewing experience, allowing you to discern fine details in distant objects.
Wide Field of View (125 m at 1,000 m for 8x42 model): For the 8x42 model, a field of view of 125 meters at 1,000 meters means you can see a broader area at a given distance. This is useful for tracking moving objects, scanning landscapes, or observing a wider scene without needing to constantly move the binoculars.
Now Let's Talk about Nikon Monarch M7

Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) Glass: This special glass effectively corrects color distortions (chromatic aberration). This means you'll see images with exceptionally high resolution and rich contrast, making details sharper and colors truer to life.
Multilayer Coatings: All lenses and prisms are treated with multilayer coatings. This technology significantly increases light transmission, resulting in a much brighter image and natural, accurate colors.
Dielectric High-Reflective Multilayer Prism Coating: Applied to the prisms, this coating further boosts the brightness of the image and ensures vivid, true-to-life colors across the entire visible spectrum.
Phase-Correction Coating: Located on the roof prisms, this coating corrects phase shifts of light, which can cause loss of resolution. This results in sharper, clearer images with enhanced contrast and definition.
Oil- and Water-Repellent Coating: The objective lenses and eyepieces have a special coating that repels oil and water. This makes the lenses easy to clean from smudges, fingerprints, or raindrops, ensuring your view remains unobstructed.
Waterproof and Fog-Free: These binoculars are designed to be waterproof up to 1 meter for 10 minutes and are fog-free. This means they can be used reliably in wet conditions and won't fog up internally due to temperature changes, ensuring clear viewing in various environments.
Long Eye Relief (17.1mm): Eye relief is the distance from the eyepiece lens to the point where the full image can be seen. A long eye relief of 17.1mm provides comfortable viewing, especially for people who wear eyeglasses, as they can see the entire field of view without removing their glasses.
My Quick Review after using both ZEISS TERRA ED and the Nikon Monarch M7
My primary use for these is birdwatching and I find that the colours are crispier and truer in the ZIESS TERRA ED as compared to my Nikon Monarch M7.
The chromatic aberration is better on the Nikon Monarch M7.
In India the Monarch M7 is more expensive than the ZEISS TERRA ED.
They are both waterproof, lightweight and built well.
I use prescription eyeglasses and I find both comfortable to use.
They both come with a bag to sore
Overall, both are a great pair, personally in on a sunny day I like to pick the Nikon Monarch M7, with less chromatic aberration I find this performs better in harsh sunlight. For the same reason I like it for beach birding. However, if the weather is overcast, I find myself grabbing my ZEISS TERRA ED because I find thanks to the 88% light transmission, colours are truer and i can easily see the red-nape of the bird in forest canopies where the light is dimmer. As far as the storage bag is concerned, I find the ZEISS bag more sturdy.
My advice: If you're going to be birding more often in lower light pick the ZEISS TERRA ED and if you're going to be using them in harsher light, pick the Nikon Monarch M7.
